In short, gay rights in general are the same as rights of heterosexuals. The main emphasis on gay rights within the last few years were the right of gay marriages and the right for gay couples to adopt children. There are already gay rights in affect with the same status of people of different ethnicities and religious preferences. Harassment and physical injuries of people because they're "heterosexual" constitutes as a hate crime.

A few months ago, an old high school acquaintance of mine was murdered. We were cool with each other. But I didn't know he was gay. However, it didn't surprise me one bit though. Still we got along and so forth back in high school. I've hardly kept touch with my friends in high school after graduation summer of 2000. I found out he was gay in the worse way possibly, a news report on his murder. It said that he was with these two guys. The report added that he was hitting on them and the two guys were freaked. But they didn't have to kill him. They should have told him to just back off. That was the worse way to find out that a friend of acquaintance is gay, transgendered, bisexual or so forth.

Nobody wants to find that stuff about their friends by a breaking news report on a murder. That was the biggest mind frag that I had faced this year. It's not something I told many people. I have plenty of gay friends and they were very good friends. That murder was a pretty sensitive subject to me. And it still is a sensitive subject. The thing is, the issue of gay rights will probably be a local issue. The two men were charged under the hate crimes law which can carry the death penalty.

In the future gay couples across the national can get married and adopt children. But it's not going to happen overnight. In a more realistic sense, you have to give this about eight to twelve years at least. With the Democrats in control, gay rights is going to be a big issue. One big issue would be gays in the military. Joe Biden made a point that in battle, nobody's going to ask who's gay and who's straight. You don't have to be straight in order to shoot straight, which is true. Sexual preference has nothing to do on how effective a soldier one is going to be.
