Usually, people that are susceptible to dry skin have more problems in the winter time when the air is cold and dry. At that time, one has to take more preventative measures to prevent their skin from getting too dry and irritated. Some common things to do are to shower with warm water instead of hot; as the hot water tends to dry skin out severely. After showering, a good moisturizer is needed, preferably one that does not have any perfume added; as that will irritate already dry skin. For example, products by "Aveeno" are recommended by dermatologists and work well.
Extra protection must be given to the face, as that is what is exposed the most in the winter time. Good deep conditioners like "Oil of Olay" are good for the facial areas. Using laundry detergent and regular soap with no additional perfumes and additives lessen the risk of the skin becoming irritated. For ladies who need to shave their legs every day, a sharp razor and baby oil will lessen the amount of "bumps" after shaving.
