You want your child to eat something healthy for lunch during school. Your child wants to eat something that is fun and tastes good. There is a way to make both of you happy. You can pack a school lunch that your child will look forward to eating. To please kids, it is important to consider the taste, how the food looks and the size. Here are a few ideas of things that taste good, are healthy and fun to eat:

Roll-Ups: Forget the boring sandwich made with bread. Make some roll-ups using tortillas or flat bread. Start with mayo or mustard, then add a lunchmeat like turkey or ham. Next add the veggies. Don't worry; your child will never even know they are there. Add some lettuce, chopped cucumber, pickles, red peppers, tomato, and sprouts. Next roll the tortilla or flat bread into a tube. Now slice the tube into 2 inch slices. Stack these slices in a plastic container.

Fruit: Three words here - Chop, Chop, and Chop! Make the fruit into small pieces and your child will eat it. It is always more fun to eat small chunks of fruit than to have to peel a whole big apple. Slice up the apples, peel and separate the orange sections. Of course, grapes are perfect because they are already in small pieces. Bananas are best left in their peels, otherwise they will turn brown. A quick and easy way to pack fruit is of course the little canned fruits which contain peaches, pears, and pineapple. However, you could save money by opening a large can of pineapple and peaches and then make your own fruit cocktails. This should last all week. Add in fresh fruit like apple chunks and banana slices in the morning for variety.

Vegetables: Again, chop them up! Provide baby carrots or chop the carrots into sticks. Chop the celery into sticks. Zucchini is not thought of often for school lunches, but it tastes good raw and is crunchy to eat. Broccoli and cauliflower chunks are great choices as well because they are finger-foods.

Snacks: Popcorn (maybe you have some leftover from the night before). Rice cakes are fun and crunchy, and they come in all kinds of flavors. Pack a little cup of peanut butter and some chocolate chips to dip into it.
