Most of us in Georgia have already entered into a school daze, so we welcome one last weekend to give summer a long embrace before hunkering down for parent-teacher conferences, midterms and the countdown to the holidays.
For those of you into the fine arts, this is the last weekend to catch the Kings as Collectors and Decorative Arts of the Kings exhibits at the Louvre-lovin' High Museum of Art, closing on Sunday, September 2nd. With memories of Princess Diana on the world's collective mind, consider touring stately subjects and experiencing the oft-tragically glamorous life of royalty.
Book it to the Decatur Book Festival from Friday, August 31st through, Sunday September 2nd. Charles Frazier, Chris Raschka, Tina McElroy Ansa-so many writers, so little time. Admit it: you'd love to be on the numerous authors' stages around town, signing your book and being treated like a rock star. So check out the free (but register pronto) workshops being offered on Saturday during the Festival's Writers Conference at Agnes Scott College and maybe next year that will be you being brought a cold beverage and a Sharpie by a smitten groupie.
A, B, C, D, E, you'll see-the last weekend for Sesame Street. Well, the last day isn't actually until September 9th, but I'm going with an educational theme here, and nothing says early education like Sesame Street. Head to Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta and experience interactive exhibits and activities like a "Cookies Are A Sometimes Food" sing-a-long on Saturday, September 1st, and a "Make My Own Puppet" workshop on Sunday, September 2nd. The Museum is perfect for children aged eight and under, and remember, as they remind would-be visitors, "All grownups must be accompanied by a kid, and all kids must be accompanied by a grownup."
