I am here but for some inane reason you don't see me

Oh, but perhaps you see me and just choose to ignore me

I have dressed the part

I have said all the right things

Yet you tilt your head just so and pass by me as if you don't know

You act as if you refuse to acknowledge my accomplishments

I have titles and awards that all document my endeavors

Yet, not one compliment is ever uttered from you

It's unbelievable that I even want praise from you

Somehow though what you think really matters to me

Sadly, your words construct the world in which I reside

They matter so much to me I ache inside

I long for the day when positivity from you will come my way

Yet, negativity towards me is all I get from you

To you- I'm not good enough, not strong enough, not tall enough......just not enough

But to me you are too much, you expect way too much, you want too much, you complain too much....too much

Lastly, I have to walk away..turn away from you and your unrealistic view

Betray the love that I have in my heart and become less disillusioned and more heart smart

No longer will I let your expectations define me

I am closing the door to you and your permanent frown

I'm cutting loose the strings, celebrating my beauty, and from you I'm set free

Free to create my own definition of my life and where I should be

Free to let go the unhealthy comparisons,

Free to let go the toxic dependence I have upon you

Free to begin to live without fear, shame, regret, or disappointment

Free to simply embrace the exciting life ahead of me
