This is the last part of my series on the First Ladies and their lives. With this section, we enter some of the more familiar (at least to us) occupants of the position. As you will see, Eleanor Roosevelt changed the public's perception of what a First Lady should be, and many of them used their position to espouse personal projects, though not aways with success. Though the first two in this list could be called the last of the traditional First Ladies - women more concerned with their families than taking up causes - the parade of invalids was ended forever, and the First Lady became truly the most important woman in the land.
