A good home air purifier is essential because you need clean air to breath inside of your home.

Selecting a good air cleaner isn't always easy because different people have different needs and there are many types of cleaners to choose from.

Some important differences include the type of pollutants you want them to clean, how efficiently you want them to clean, how noisy they are and the type of filters they use. There are also differences in size, color and price.

What Do You Want The Cleaner to Clean?

When looking for a home air purifier you need to know what types of pollutants you want the air purifier to clean so make a list and keep it handy as you search for the best air cleaner for you.

Typical pollutants that people want an air cleaner to clean are: Animal Dander; Airborne Particles; Dust; Mold Spores; Chemicals; Tobacco Smoke; VOC's; Gases; Odors; Pollen; New Carpet Odor

How Big Is The Area You Want Cleaned?

You need to know how many square feet you want your air purifier to clean.

Small air purifiers will typically only clean a very small room.

You will need to consider your ceiling height as well as the length and width of the room you're wanting to clean.

I live in a one story home with no basement. My home is 1,160 square feet (quite small but quite cozy!). I use an IQAir Healthpro Plus - placed in a central location - and I use a smaller and much older unit in my bedroom.

The smaller one in my bedroom is old and needs to be replaced soon but, as for the big cleaner, I chose the IQAir HealthPro because it met my needs, it was very highly rated, it was within my budget and it's upgradeable to the IAQir HealthPro Plus

My second choice was an air purifier by Austin Air. The Austin Air units are smaller than the IQAir purifiers and I would have needed more than one to clean my whole house. So, you'll also want to consider the size of the air cleaning unit itself and whether you want multiple, smaller cleaners, one large cleaner or a combination of the two.
