One portion of downtown Detroit that draws people for its nightlife is Harmonie Park. The small, triagular park is surrounded by restaurants, art galleries, offices and lofts. The single-lane streets give the area a walkable feel. The architecturally beautiful area is within walking distance of the Theater District, Greektown, Comerica Park and Ford Field.

The area has gone through renovations in recent years and continues to struggle a bit as some of the building spaces are unoccupied. There is still plenty to do in the area, though. Here are some places to check out if you visit Harmonie Park.

Coaches Corner, 1465 Centre St. This is a place you can hang out and grab a bit to eat before a Tigers or Lions game. There is plenty of sports memorabilia on the walls to get you in game mode. Among your food and beverage choices are burgers, sandwiches, beer and wine.

Espresso Jazzy Cafe, E. Grand River between Broadway and Centre. This cafe recently opened its doors to offer consumers coffee drinks and sweets. There are plans to add breads and sandwiches to the menu. The Espresso Jazzy Cafe offers free wireless Internet.

Hunter House, 351 Gratiot Ave. Hungry for a good burger? Take a ride to Hunter House for some mouthwatering sliders. Also on the menu are appetizers, pastas, salads. Once located on Randolph St. the eatery moved toward the edge of the park inside the Hilton Garden Hotel.

Grand Central Lounge, 311 E. Grand River. Formally known as the Centre Street Pub this spacious nightspot where you can mix and mingle with the locals and suburbanites. There are often special events here such as parties and concerts.

Lola's, 1427 Randolph. This restaurant opened about two years ago and since that time local celebrities have entered its doors to dine on the fine cuisine. Many of the dishes in this restaurant are delicious. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, chicken and sea food. There is a cozy and stylish atmosphere to this restaurant. Most nights of the week you'll find live music to entertain you as you dine on your meal. Not hungry? There is a full drink bar where you can have a drink to cap off your evening.

Sounds like a good variety. I'd be a sucker for the jazzy cafe.

Greektown sounds the most appealing of all, as I am British Greek-Cypriot! Sophie
