The role of the commission based sales manager is more than one who has knowledge of how the business is run. It is true that to be a supervisor or sales manager it take someone who is a people person, understands how the human mind works, a referee, and a motivator.

During a recent work experience this became very clear to me. A sales manager must be a person who will truly listen to their sales staff. Time should be set aside to gather your workers and truly listen to their concerns. When I say truly, I mean, do not decide that you are not going to budge and you are just letting your sales people vent. This is not helpful in anyway. It must be understood, sales people are sharp and will see right through you.

When you see unrest among your sales people do something about it. Do not stick your head in the ground and hope the problems will go away. They won't. This means that you should not require your people to act as if nothing is bothering them. A cover up of issues never works and this is even more so when it comes to a sales person.

It is imperative that your sales staff stays upbeat. In order to sale one has to remain positive and light hearted. It is true that no matter how great a work situation may be, nobody will have a good day everyday. However, when your entire sales staff is down and depressed everyday be greatly concerned.

As with any working situation, those who are in the direct line of fire are many times the very ones who hold the answer to key issues the business is facing. Gather your sales people together and get their input. If you have a staff of experienced sales people you are truly blessed. You have before you a wealth of information and strategies, which may work, for your company. Let your sales people discuss possible solutions. Come up with a plan of action to correct the situation as a group if at all possible.

Takeaways
  • It is imperative that your sales staff stays upbeat.
  • Avoid turnover in your sales staff if at all possible.
  • Constant turn over in sales staff will send out a warning signal to your customers.

This is the absolute truth!! Something has to be wrong when 6 people quit the same place in a matter of days!! Maybe one day the person that owns this certain place will realize what the management is doing to their sale people, & get rid of the one's that actually have the issues... Any other place would WANT you to work your notice, but not this place. You put in your notice, & that's your last day! Doesn't seem right.... does it????
