I don't know what the Farmer's Almanac predicted for the weather in the midwestern states this summer. But I do know that the comfortable summer days in northwest Ohio quickly evolved into hot, sweltering days that sometimes topped the ninety degree mark. Combined with high humidity levels, being outside often felt like you were standing in a sauna. On top of the sultry heat wave in August- which sparked further, possible proof about global warming- drought conditions spread across the Midwest states. Rain was forecast for parts of north-central Ohio during the week of August 20 which brought sighs of relief from farmers and backyard cultivators alike. Until the rains came thundering in, that is. Read "Touched By An Angel: Mysterious Heavenly Being Helps Flood Victims Keep the Faith" and find out how one couple's trust was renewed!

Wicked Weather
The heavy rains and storms started the night of August 20, and they continued to pound some Ohio cities all night. Where I live, north of Columbus, a total of six inches of precipitation was recorded. The next morning, people awoke to find nearby creeks and rivers had risen over their banks, and were continuing to rise even higher. Shelby, Ohio, which is positioned between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, was one of the hardest hit areas. The Black Fork River runs right through the town.

Destructive Flood Waters
Shelby residents Edna and Bob Alfrey woke very early that morning. They saw the flood waters rising around their house. So the couple quickly evacuated by making their way out and through water so high that it splashed against their necks.

An angel statue, similar to this one, washed in on flood waters to rest on Edna and Bob Alfrey's back porch.

Thanks much all for your reading and commenting! FYI to Charlie- I figured AC would nix this piece, so I just sent it through for PVs only. I don't normally do that, but I loved the story so much that I wanted to get it published. :-)

Touching story.

Wonderful! I wrote a similar article and was told by AC that it was an Op Ed piece and therefore not publishable for a fee. Intersting the double standard they seem to have around here. I'm just glad you got your story published because I think these kinds of articles are uplifting and we need that today.

I can't imagine how devastating it must be to be caught in a flood situation. Sophie
