"Granny Chic" Takes the Interior Design World by Storm
Eevrything Old is New Again
There is no set definition for “granny chic” at the moment, but it basically entails a renewal of all things old. All things old are new and hip again in a modern, fun, funky yet traditional, and familiar. The return of wallpaper may be one of the most shocking interior décor has been to return with “granny chic.” It seems wallpaper should be buried forever in the form of the tiny strips we have all peeled off from our walls. somehow wallpaper has resurrected itself for hopefully one last stand. “Granny chic” wallpaper is a new look at wallpaper; bright colors, festive patterns, modern designs, and endearing themes dominate the style. Humor definitely plays a big part in the designs. The pattern recommended on NBC’s Today Show is called Birds & Butterflies and sells for $95 a roll. It can be found online at designpro@ddbuilding.com. Now that is some serious wallpaper. Of course the NBC Today Show is taped in New York City where $95 a roll may not seem that outrageous. Something tells me that our grandmother’s never paid $95 a roll for wallpaper.
Other “granny chic” items include the return of romantic and antique style furniture. Of course to qualify as “granny chic” there must be a new, colorful, modern, or contemporary twist on this old furniture. For example, a traditional armchair might be covered in shiny vinyl where traditionally velvet might have been.
