We have all seen pirates running around at Halloween trick-or-treating. Even Hollywood is jumping on the pirate ship with recent block-busters. If your child wants to be a pirate for Halloween, you can put this Pirate Costume together fairly quickly and inexpensively.

It is unique enough to stand out from the rest of the crowd, and your child will love it. This is all you will need for this project:

Ghost Pirate Costume for Halloween--Step #1: Materials

White Shirt (Get one that is long-sleeved and one size too large. It doesn't have to be new either. Save some money and buy one at a second-hand clothing store for next to nothing.)

Red Fabric Marker (You will use this to "paint" vertical stripes on the shirt.)

Poster Board (To go inside the shirt in order to paint it.)

Black Pants (Again, these don't have to be new. You can pick them up for next to nothing as well. In fact you might prefer to do it like that for the shirt and pants.)

Two Red and One Black Long, Patterned or Solid-Colored Scarves (You'll use one red and one black one for the belt. You can tie them together at the ends and twist them for a "braided" appearance. The other red one will tie around the top of the head under the hat.)

Black Vest

Black Shoes (Boots if you've got them work well too.)

Face Paint (Black, Green, and White.)

¼ Cup Coffee Grounds

½ Cup White Corn Syrup

Assorted Pirate Accessories (Such as gaudy rings; a clip-on gold hoop earring; plastic sword; eye-patch; and a three-sided pirate hat.)

Ghost Pirate Costume for Halloween--Step #2: Preparing the Clothes

Take the white shirt and place the poster board inside. Next, you paint on vertical, red stripes using your fabric paint. You can make them all the same size or you could make one two inches wide, the next one an inch wide; and so on; all the way down the shirt.

Don't worry about the sleeves. You will want to leave them white. Allow the paint to dry before you remove the poster board and go to the next phase.
