Everyone needs a place to call home, even celebrities. From mountainside mansions to beach-front palaces, a celebrity home is often more than just a house; a celebrity home is a statement of success, power and wealth.

Judging from the homes of these famous comedians, laughter may not be the best medicine, but it sure covers a hefty house payment.

Jim Carrey
A Canadian by birth, Jim Carrey began performing stand-up comedy as a teenager in local clubs in Toronto and Ontario. In the early 1980's, he moved to Los Angeles and began performing at The Comedy Store. Rodney Dangerfield caught one of his performances and liked Carrey so much that he signed him up to open Dangerfield's tour. Later, Carrey would audition for the 1980-81 Saturday Night Live cast but was not accepted. Carrey moved on to be a cast member on In Living Color, and from there to films such as Ace Ventura, The Mask and many others. Carrey was the first comedian to make $20 million a film. Carrey's house reflects his numerous multi-million dollar paydays.

Jay Leno
Host of The Tonight Show and avid car collector. Leno has not been without criticism from fellow late night entertainers and other comedians. But whenever the heat gets too much he can always retreat to his lovely house.

Whoopi Goldberg
Actress, comedienne, DJ and author, Whoopi Goldberg is one of the few celebrities to earn an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony award. Her home is a modest reflection of her truly stellar success.

Bill Murray
Bill Murray catapulted to fame as on Saturday Night Live. He was not one of the original members, but came on as a replacement for Chevy Chase. Murray followed up with such comedy classics as Caddyshack, Stripes and Ghostbusters. Murray owns houses in Mew York, Charleston, SC and Los Angeles.

This sure beats taking a bus tour of celebrity homes. At least this way, I can see more of the houses than what I could just peering through the massive iron gates as the bus drives by.
