An important thing to do while potty training your child is to be consistent. That means, whether you're at grandma's or at a restaurant, if your child needs to go potty - make sure there is a way for them to go. Whatever you do, don't use a diaper "just this one time" just because it seems convenient. This is only going to make your life more difficult in the long run. What options do you have when you're out and about?
Well, you can try getting your child to use a public toilet if your someplace like a store, or your can try the big toilet if you're at a friend's house. Now, you might encounter some problems if you try these as your toddler might not be used to or be ready for the big toilets. This could cause them to hold it in (which can cause more problems - constipation!) or they just might be afraid to use either of these.
Another option you have is to purchase a travel potty. Travel potties are great because they are built for your little one and you have the ability to get them used to using them by practicing first at home a few times.
There are several different styles of travel potties that you can use. The most common travel potty usually consists of a type of seat designed for your child's smaller fanny, that fits over big toilet seats so your little one can use them. These usually fold up for easy transport in your diaper bag - that way you're not walking around with a toilet seat under your arm whenever you go out!
Mommy's Little Helper has a travel potty that fits into this category. It is basically a little seat that folds up for easy storage, and fits over any regular sized toilet. These are easy to use when you aren't at home, and they're easy to carry with you.
The other type of travel potty that is available is one that is more like a regular potty seat in that it doesn't go over a bigger toilet.
