From time to time, parents need to be challenged just as much as the children. It is just so easy to fall into a patterned routine. Sometimes it's much easier for a tired parent to give in to a sweet or restless child than to put in a bit of effort. That's when we need to challenge ourselves.

This week's challenge is to leave off all the video games, electronics, and the television for 48 hours.

There is to be absolutely no television, no video games, no iPods, no using electronic or battery-operated devices of any kind that are not part of a homework or work assignment (this includes computers). Microwaves and other kitchen devices are okay. Electronic board games with two or more players are okay.

See what happens when your family is not under the control of these devices.

Are you up to the challenge?

Let us know in the comments section if you will participate. Then, come back and let us know what resulted.

Things to consider:

Did you make it through? What things changed? Is family communication better or worse? What things did you do instead of using the devices? Will your household change anything after this challenge?

LOL Tashia! We did it, but hubby was the one who didn't participate. He needs his sports. LOL I went on the computer, but only for stuff directly related to writing. I wasn't allowed anything else. It was hard, but it was well worth the time with the kids. While hubby still watched his tv, he did participate in family activities, so he didn't let it infere. I'd say it went pretty well for us. :-)

Very hard challenge in deed! I think my husband would go crazy! But it's a very good challenge, the bonding experience would far out-weigh the loss of convenience.

It is definitely good for family time. Family members can actually enjoy each other for a change, without all the noise and interruptions. :-)

Nice challenge! We have days wher I just say "no TV" and we read or play games. It is a nice change of pace.

LOL Heather. Yeah, when you're far along in pregnancy, there's sometimes not much you can do but sit in front of the tv or computer. :-)
