If you remember the last article, I posed the four "What" questions that every beginning collector needs to consider before attempting their journey into the realm of sports collectibles. In this article, I'll address the first of the four questions, namely "What's the real reason for purchasing all those packs of cards?" What was the catalyst or the spark that got you started?

As I mentioned, these articles are targeted towards the beginning collector, someone who's been collecting for 12 months or less. And in some instances, it's also aimed at the parents of the younger collectors. Are you with me moms and dads? If it's your son or daughter that's the collector (and not you), then you should keep up with what I'm saying through the course of these articles, also.

Depending on your age bracket, there could be a different answer to the above question. The sports collectibles industry reminds me of that great advertising slogan that the U. S. Army used years ago --- "It's not just a job, it's an adventure." However, I don't care what your age is, or what your gender is, if you are a going to be a serious collector, there are three cardinal truths that will always remain as constants when it comes to understanding the hobby, enjoying collecting, and being successful at it (this does not apply to the investment aspect of the sports collectibles industry. Investing is a different issue altogether, that will be covered in the next article). Just so you know, I have included my e-mail address at the end of this article, and I welcome your comments and questions.
