Steam baths have been around for along time however, there are many benefits to steam baths, which you may not be aware of. There is much talk of detoxifying the body today and a steam bath is a great means of doing so. In addition a steam bath assists with circulation making this a great tool for those who suffer from circulation disease. Steam stimulates the immune system as well which helps to fight against illnesses. An adult can expect to loose as much as two pounds when they take a steam bath. Steams bathing and aromatherapy have been used in combination since the days of ancient days of Rome. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, which are pure forms of oil that are derived from various plants and herbs. These essential oils are used for many health related issues such as the treatment of skin disease, and various immune disorders as well as for a stress relief.
Steam treatments together with essential oils allow the benefits of the oils to be introduced to the body's system through the skin as well as through the lungs. Steam baths have the ability to increase circulation and the blood vessels enlarge as a result. When this happens greater amounts of blood is delivered to all areas of the body. In a steam bath one sweats and as a result the body cleanses itself of many harmful toxins. In addition, the immune system is stimulated which will help to fight off bacteria which may be present in the body.
Other benefits of steam baths are the soothing of muscles, the increase of metabolism, the hydration of the skin, help in the relief or asthma attacks, and help for those who suffer with the aches and pains of arthritis.
In addition if one has the flu or common cold a steam bath will help to set the immune system into action. By doing so white blood cells, which fight infection, are increased thus one may experience a faster recovery. A fever, which is associated with these illnesses, will help to fight the infection Fevers if they are not too high are actually a good thing when one has an illness. Steam baths artificially simulate a fever thus helping the body to eliminate the disease.
