In recent years, I have received numerous emails from some person claiming to be the son of the late president of some foreign country, the lawyer of some deceased person trying to locate relatives of this person, and other imaginary people.

Without exception, they want a lot of my private information in order to send me a large amount of money, which, of course, I will split with them. I always wonder why they think I'm stupid enough not to question why I, of all the people in the world, was chosen for this touching expression of honor and trust.

It seems strange to me that they want me to deceitfully pose as somebody's next of kin, yet they assure me that it will be a 100% legitimate, risk-free arrangement and that I will stand in no danger of getting in trouble in the process. That's probably true, unless you consider losing your shirt to some crook, getting in trouble. I'm sure most of us have received such emails and few fall for them.

But I never expected to receive one through my CP page. I just received the following message, which I have cut and pasted below in its entirety. The usual "click to view CP page" didn't copy, so I have added a link to get you to this man's CP page.

Dear Friend,
My name is Williams Cole from Great Britain. I am the Personal Account officer to my late client, Mr. Davis Stanley Who used to work with a manufacturing company here in Europe before his sudden death. On the 21st of April 2003, my client, his wife and their only son was involved in a fatal motor accident along Oaklands Roads, Hanwell-London. And unfortunately, they all lost their lives in the event of the accident, since then I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my clients extended relatives and this has also Proved unsuccessful.

Yeah, there area alot of scam AC producers out there. This guy is a big one I guess. I got one from a girl named Laura. The email didn't even make sense!

Yep I had that letter too

Thanks, everyone. I was assured by PayPal that they were shutting him down. I also received an email from AC that they were taking care of it. I don't know how that's done. Maybe his page appears to be there but he can't use it. I don't know. All I know is that just now-September 10th--I just used the link included above and went right to his page. Somebody suggested AC readers should just spam the guy like crazy, and this one had been doing it. Suppose the rest of us should do it as well? Like--think I should tell him about my grandchildren? Or all my operations? That should make interesting reading. Or better yet, send him a whole bunch of the forwards I get so tired of.

I got one too. I reported it to the AC editors, as I was unable to find a CP page. Like K. Ray, I was surprised to see a phone number and an email address (although I suppose I'd have to reach him somehow if I were to fall for this old scam) - and briefly considered telling him we're not all idiots! Did you report it, and if so, was anything done? Just wondering, since he seems to have hit a lot of us. Wonder if we ARE all related

Yes, I also received the email. I promptly reported it to AC, and have heard nothing back. I can't believe that an actual AC producer is doing this. I further can't believe that they haven't suspended him.

I also received this e-mail. I'm from the UK, so I thought he was making fun of me at first by saying a relative of mine from back home had died. I was so annoyed and reported him to AC! Sophie

oops guess I am a bit late on this one. I turned him in first and then just went public. Great job on the article!

Awful! These cons are sickening and the sad part is that some very naive people actually do lose money on them that they can ill afford.

These are irritating aren't they? You were right on top of it, though. Good job.

Ya beat me to the punch! I also received this message. Nice job! ;)

LOL I also got this - not sure if you saw my post in the CP forums. Crazy how we're all a distant relative, huh? LOL

I totally agree. That was the first scam letter I've received in two years on AC, and hopefully it's the last. I almost responded to let him know most people aren't that stupid, but I didn't waste my time.

K. Ray, I guess we just all need to remember if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Also,I don't think I ever got one of these letters that was written by a person who seemed half literate. I think most criminals are just plain dumb, and this guy is no exception.
