A Stay at the Surfside Resort in Rockaway Beach, Oregon

Every summer we seem to find a new place to try out on the Oregon Coast. This year, it was The Surfside Resort at Rockaway Beach. Rockaway Beach is a relatively small beach town located on Hwy 101 on the northern Oregon Coast. Though still somewhat of a tourist town, as evidenced by the many motels, hotels and condominiums, it is certainly smaller, with far less to do and see than larger, more popular neighboring towns of Tillamook and Cannon Beach.

The Surfside Resort is somewhat over-named; it is surely not a "resort" by anyone's definition. There is a heated indoor pool, and rental movies available at the main desk, but that's about where the amenities stop. Even the pop and ice machines were not located in each building, but instead only by the main office. There were 5 buildings, at least three of which had either beach and ocean or simply ocean views. This is where things start to pick up. We were fortunate enough to be able to get fairly last minute oceanfront room reservations for three nights in late July. An oceanfront room provides a breathtaking view of the beach and ocean from the main part of the suite, as well as the private deck. There was full kitchen, plus queen size bed and living area in the main room, and a queen bed in a separate bedroom. All this for a high season price of $129 per night explains why this is a great value for beachfront lodging.
