The San Diego Asian Film Festival, Educating San Diego on Asian American Cinema

What to Expect at the 8th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival

The "San Diego Asian Film Festival" is a once a year film festival held every fall in San Diego, California. It was already functioning as a film festival since 2000 created by the San Diego Asian Film

Foundation (SDAFF) before incorporating as a non-profit organization around 2002. So far, each of these yearly festivals has proven to be pretty successful. The SDAFF in a matter of years has become one of the biggest Asian American film festivals in North America let alone in the state of California. The SDAFF when held is run for eight days attracting thousands of people. Patrons are invited to experience what Asian and Asian American film has to offer.

This is one of many Asian American film festivals aimed to promote cultural understanding and learning. They aim to break away from the typical stereotypes associated with Asian culture. The current executive director is KGTV (an ABC station) anchor Lee Ann Kim who is very passionate about Asian American film and cinema. With people like Lee Ann Kim leading the way of the SDAFF and its Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival, it should remain strong for the years to come. So far, the festival has become very respectable and very tasteful as they have received compliments from James Kyson Lee of "Heroes" and Daniel Dae Kim of "Lost".

Currently, the 8th Annual San Diego Film Festival hasn't taken place yet. However, it's a little over a month away as it's going to take place from October 11 to October 18 of this year. If you're interested about Asian American culture and live near or within San Diego, this is one festival you cannot miss. This would be your best chance to see the latest films that Asian American cinema has to offer. Tickets will be available on September 5. Asides from watching films, attendees will be treated to several events that are jam packed in this eight-day film festival.
