Oktoberfest in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is considered by many to be one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in the United States. The Bavarian festival brings in bands direct from Bavaria to perform. Oktoberfest entertainers will perform more than 150 hours this year. The event takes up more than 100,000 square feet of tent space. Oktoberfest is held on the West Bank of the Arkansas River from October 19-21, 2007.

Oktoberfest in Tulsa has been an annual event since 1979. The early festivals were a popular success, causing the festival to grow and improve over the years.

Oktoberfest starts off with opening ceremonies on Thursday, October 19, at 5:20 p.m. The festival is opened with the tapping of the keg in Der Bier Garten. Activities over the weekend will include a Bier Barrel Race and carnival rides.

Tulsa brings in bands from the Bavarian region of Germany every year to bring an authentic touch to their Oktoberfest celebration. Bavarian headliners that will include Alztal-Blos'n, Ned Ohne Five Man Band and Pepperoni from Niederbayern.

Entertainment and beer will be enjoyed by visitors at the various Oktoberfest tents. Das Ess Zelt und Garten will host an International Folk Dance Festival each day. In the evenings, musical entertainment will be provided .Die Bierstube will feature local and regional musicians including Bill Davis, The Jambalaya Jass Band, Brandon Giles, The Zigs and Sepp Diepolder. Der Bier Keller is a favorite tent of regulars, featuring musical entertainment and beer.

The German food at the Tulsa Oktoberfest has cause Bon Appetit Magazine to call the festival "One of the best German food festivals in the U.S." German cuisine includes knackwurst, bratwurst, German Barbeque, Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes), Schnitzel, Giant Bavarian Pretzels, Sauerkraut, Kassler Rippchen (grilled, smoked pork chop) and Landjaeger (German-style beef jerky). For dessert try Strawberry or fudge Newberg, Chocolate dipped cheesecake, Belgian Waffles, Strudel, Bavarian Cheesecake, Mudslide Cake or Funnel Cake.

Octoberfest...what fun it was when we lived in Germany to go to this event...I would love to go to this one...and, I love a good wurst..:)
