I love pranks, and in my opinion, television shows that record harmless pranks and real reactions are absolutely hilarious. If you enjoyed shows such as Candid Camera, you're sure to love Just for Laughs on ABC. Two half-hour episodes of mischief airing back-to-back include some of the funniest pranks ever recorded and broadcast on television, and these tricks and practical jokes obviously require a little work and a lot of planning. Just for Laughs on ABC is sure to tickle your funny bone if you love practical jokes and pranks as I do.

How This Show is Different From Others of This Type

When reruns of the popular television show Candid Camera aired, I didn't miss an episode. Alan Funt, the creator of this 1940's reality TV series invented some of the funniest pranks and practical jokes ever aired, and his son Peter Funt followed in his footsteps decades later. This was a really funny television show with timeless pranks and practical jokes, and when ABC aired the first episode of Just for Laughs it was sure to give old episodes of Candid Camera a run for the money.

Unscripted Television Entertainment

Just for Laughs doesn't follow a script, and the expressions and emotions of those who have fallen victim to the pranks really says it all. Music and laughter is all that is heard throughout the show, and nothing more is necessary to generate humor and entertainment. Just for Laughs reminds me of Trigger Happy TV which used to air on Comedy Central. That show was also a compilation of funny clips and hidden camera tricks. Although every prank and trick wasn't hilariously funny, it was very entertaining and also one of my favorites.

Laughs at the Expense of Others or Harmless Pranks?

I've only successfully pulled off one prank in my life. It was on an immigrant from Poland. She joined my sorority and was elected our Valentine Queen. She was always pulling stuff on other people, so I really wanted to get her. This was in the early 80's when the Incredible Hulk was on TV. She wasn't that knowledgeable about that kind of stuff but trying to learn for her kids. I hired a body builder to imitate the Hulk, complete with terrible wig and green skin. Between the Valentine dinner and dessert, we snuck him into a washing machine box I'd decorated like a huge package. When my friend came back into the room, we presented her with the award next to the box and told her it was a gift for her. As she was doing her acceptance speech, the "Hulk" started moving inside the box and finally jumped out of the top. She loved it!

I like the harmless prank shows, too. I don't like the cruel ones.

I love that show! I do wish they'd include what the "victims" say, though. Of course some of it may be worthy of censure. How many times do we find ourselves in similar situations and wish/hope it would turn out to be a prank instead of the real thing?
