There were just too many movies in October so a second movie guide here was needed. I think you and your family will have an interesting selection with the films below. The films I have chosen to profile include a biopic of the late singer Ian Curtis, a family that struggles with mental illness, a sequel as well as a very unique comedy. So let's get started!

Control

This drama tells the real life tale of Ian Curtis who was the lead singer of the band, Joy Division. It chronicles his life as a musician as well as his downfalls which eventually brought him to suicide in 1980. "Control" stars Sam Riley, Samantha Morton as well as Alexandra Maria Lara. This biopic is produced by Curtis's wife, Deborah and was based on her book, Touching From a Distance. "Control" is to be released in theaters on October 10th.

Canvas

This film that was inspired by a true story tells us the story of how a family struggles to cope with mental illness. While a wife and mother must deal with her illness in a mental institution, the father and son complete a project together in hopes of eventually sharing it with the person they love most. "Canvas" stars Joe Pantoliano, Marcia Gay Harden, Devon Gearhart as well as Sophia Bairley. This touching drama was written and directed by Joseph Greco. "Canvas" with its limited release opens in theaters on October 12th.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age

This drama is a sequel to "Elizabeth" that was released almost 10 years ago. This film revolves around Queen Elizabeth who falls for Sir Walter Raleigh all the while having to deal with King Philip II and his army. "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" stars Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen as well as Geoffrey Rush. This film is directed by Shekhar Kapur who was also responsible for "Elizabeth". "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" is to be released in theaters on October 12th.

Excellent previews! With The Golden Age, the filmmakers somehow managed to turn an exciting era into a boring, slapdash affair. There is enough overwrought drama to make even the most careless of soap operas cringe. While one could argue that the first film suffered from the same problem, at least in Elizabeth the plot was designed to entertain; it succeeded tremendously with a plot that unraveled a tapestry of lies. The sequel suffers from a lack of any real tension or enjoyment.
