Unlimited profit potential. Make your own hours. Nobody to answer to. Be your own boss! A route close to your home!! All of these promises are told to you if you ever dreamed of starting your own vending machine route. In some cases, this is quite true. But before you burn your bridges with your current boss and say a fond adieu to your current career, one must consider the negatives of every situation. The ultimate question is this: Are you ready to take a large leap of faith into an unknown situation? Have you created a graphic organizer weighing both positives and negatives regarding this move?

First of all, some people may consider starting a vending machine route part-time, and this is probably a decent idea to get the full experience and feel of the business. A part-time route is supposedly easy to maintain and relatively simple to find; the Pennysavers often list these routes under "Business Opportunities." But before you call that beckoning phone number, consider these very carefully.

1.) Locations

Sometimes, vending machine routes are for sale for a good reason. If a vending machine hums in the middle of nowhere, does anybody hear it or purchase its profit-making goodies? Much like a tree falling in the woods, the location means everything. Ideally, the more people in a given area, the larger the possibility of making a profit. Before going headfirst into a decision of purchasing a route, complete with vending machines, do your homework! Ask the question regarding location and research the area.

2.) Repairs

There exists no fairy that repairs vending machines for you. Once you buy, it is your responsibility to either repair them yourself or hire someone who will do the job for you. This hiring will cut into your profits; but obviously a non-working vending machine will not be popular with anyone. People become filled with wrath when they insert coins or dollars and nothing happens. Gummed up coin slots become an unsettling end-result from disgruntled customers. Be sure to factor in keeping your machine in proper working order and cleaning it thoroughly when needed.

3.) Stop and Go, Stop and Go
