If you've watched sports in the United States at any point in the past decade then you've noticed the growth of entertaining owners. The most important thing to keep in mind when dealing with sports in the United States is that they've become more of a spectacle than an actual game, so it only makes sense that the owners showcase themselves along with their teams. While the faces are numerous owners are recognizable to the public, there are a few special owners that manage to outshine their teams every now and again. George Steinbrenner For almost four decades Yankee fans have had the pleasure (and at times displeasure) of knowing George Steinbrenner as The Boss. Even skimming through all of the New York Yankee lore and history, it's hard to fathom that one man can appear bigger than the team, especially since he's not actually a player. However, Steinbrenner has managed time and time again to put himself into the news, especially after the Yankees suffer a defeat. Steinbrenner managed to get himself banned from baseball when he paid a gambler to dig up dirt on Dave Winfield, which actually brought the fans of New York a bit of happiness. Though Steinbrenner has never done something so heinous after his reinstatement, he is known for handing down statements when the Yankees aren't doing well. However, his rash comments struck a profound nerve with Yankee fans when it appeared that he was threatening to fire manager Joe Torre. However, baseball fans may have seen the last of his antics as his health continues to deteriorate and he looks to pass on or sell his share of the team.
