onlookers from around the globe. Over ten million visitors have personally witnessed the legendary marvels of the chasm with its winding waterways fueled by the power of the AuSable River.

During the 1800’s, settlers capitalized on the vast and rich area resources that surrounded the mighty river. Industries such as logging, paper mills, saw mills and iron mining thrived in the region until late in the 19th century. Yet, despite the eventual decline in the river's business and industrial use, the chasm’s venerable charms kept it successfully operating as a popular tourist attraction, and in 2006, it celebrates its 136th year in operation.

With miles of scenic nature trails to explore, AuSable Chasm is truly an outdoor enthusiast's paradise! Signage along each path informs travelers of unique landmarks, flora and fauna in the area. Designated lookout points offer breathtaking views of ancient rock formations, forestry, wildlife and other serene vistas. Whether exploring the chasm on foot, or just floating leisurely down the river, the experience is amazingly entertaining, unforgettable and best of all, affordable!
