There has been quite a bit of chatter lately about Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It is a syndrome that can be quite confusing at first but with a little work all the symptoms can be managed. I was first told I had PCOS in 2004 and just like most women I had never heard of it but with a little research found out ways to help manage the symptoms.

The thing that brought me to the doctor was the fact that I had not had a menstrual cycle in two months and even though my husband had a vasectomy my body felt pregnant. But the first thing the doctor eliminated was pregnancy. She then decided to send me for an ultra sound to see if there was any cyst or tumors. Well there was some cyst or should I say there were a lot of cysts formed perfectly around the outside of my ovaries.

The first thing my doctor wanted to do was to put me on hormone therapy, she said it would control the symptoms. However I had read quite a bit about hormone therapy and did not like what I was hearing about the long time results. So I opted to just live with it but what I did not know is the symptoms were only beginning to show.

PCOS is one of those syndromes you can have for years and never see the effects of it until one day it decides it is time for you to suffer. The symptoms of PCOS are broad and you can have anywhere from one symptom to all of the symptoms. Some of the common symptoms are an ovary with cyst, acne, obesity and irregular or no menstrual cycles. Then there is a whole list of other signs you may have it to include but not limited to acne, excess hair growth, weight gain and a fight to lose weight, thinning hair, oily skin, dandruff, infertility, skin discolorations and on the list goes. But if you have a few of this signs I suggest you go see your doctor.
