For some students, attending college will be much like the previous 12 years of education: continuing to attend scheduled classroom meetings to discuss topics such as Math, History, and English Composition, all of which are required subjects of many degree programs. Others will attempt this traditional form of academia only to realize that some of the more important questions haven't been answered; "What do I want to do with my life?", "What really interests me?", or "How am I going to juggle parenthood and college?" The answers to these questions come easily to some, but others find that while they have the interest and desire to obtain a degree, they need a different format of learning, something more customizable, personal, and independent of the traditional commuting and scheduling of classes and meetings. The answer, for many of these students, has been found through distance learning. Distance Learning and, more specifically, online colleges have made the decision and ability to go to college even easier for many students who find traditional college commuting and classroom attendance unavailable or impossible.

Deciding on the appropriate college requires first an understanding of your desires for the future as well as an understanding of which environment would be most productive to achieve those important goals. Knowing what you want to do with your life, and knowing which educational institute can get you there is the most important decision all students will make. Whether you choose to be a lawyer or a teacher, your ability to learn and retain the necessary skills will determine your success in college as well as your professional career.
