Mexican restaurants in the mid-west are popping up so often that it can be a difficult task trying to find one that rises above all the rest. There are the national chains such as Taco Bell and Taco John's, but those are the 'West-Mex' that most American's prefer to real authentic Mexican food. However, one restaurant that recently started in Sioux Falls has risen above the rest: La Fiesta. La Fiesta provides the customer with great food, great atmosphere, quick service and affordable pricing. To begin with, when you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by the staff who are always happy to see you there. As soon as you sit down, someone brings out chips and salsa. Now, most Mexican restaurants provide you with chips and salsa, but this restaurant goes a step further. The chips are very crispy and yellow in color and you get two types of dipping sauces. There is the regular salsa (which is homemade and fantastic) and a type of ranch sauce that when mixed with the salsa gives you a unique taste that is a nice change from your typical chips and salsa.
The menu is quite extensive and provides the customer with a variety of options to choose from. There is everything from tacos and burritos to fajitas and more complicated mixes of Mexican style foods. My favorite is the lunch special number 24. It is a chicken breast with Mexican rice, re-fried beans and a special sauce that when it is all mixed together and placed on a tortilla is fantastic.
Once you order, you have a chance to feast on the chips and salsa, and in what seems like minutes, your food has arrived. The servings that they provide for you are not small portions, so if you are on a diet or watching what you eat, you may want to split a meal. However, for those of you who love food and plenty of it, you will not be disappointed. The portions, while not overwhelming, are quite substantial for most people. There is a good chance you won't be a part of the clean plate club after this meal (unless you are like my friend Mike who must finish it each time).
