It's important to make your child's birthday a special and a memorable one. I developed activities that I you could do with your child throughout their birthday.

Read a few birthday books throughout the day. This will give you the opportunity to talk to your child about what it means to have a birthday. You can also ask your child what are some things that they are able to do. The activities they come up with will vary depending on how old your child is turning. Some good books I would recommend are Happy Birthday Moon by Prentice Hall, The Birthday Party by Helen Oxenbury and Birthday Presents by Cynthia Rylant. You can check these books out at your local library.

Do a fun birthday art project with your child. There are two birthday projects that are a lot of fun to do no matter how old your child will be . The first one was a birthday hat. I used a long rectangular piece of construction paper and cut it in half. Your can child decorates it using glue and collage materials. When they are done stick a candle with their name on it made from construction paper. Your child can have fun wearing it the whole day. The second activity you can do is balloon decorating. Blow up the balloons together and have your child decorate it using colored ink pens. This is a fun activity your child will enjoy.

Play birthday games. Birthday is a day of presents. Purchase several little birthday presents wrapped and hide it somewhere in the house. Every two hours have your child search, find and open a present. Another game is pin the tail on the donkey. Blind fold your child and have your child to try to pin the tail on the donkey. Every time they pin the tail they get to pick a prize from a prize box that you can create. You can buy the kit at a craft store for only six dollars. The game is well worth the cost. It can last your child hours of play before they get tired of it.

Bake a birthday cake together. Children love to cook. Baking their own cake would be a wonderful opportunity. Have your child assist you in cracking the eggs, pouring the flour and sugar in the bowl. When the cake is done your child can help you decorate it using frosting and candles.

Enjoy all the fun planning when the kids are little. When they get older, they have their own ideas. :)
