Labradoodle Dogs - One of the Most Popular Hybrid Dogs

What do you get when you cross a Poodle and a Labrador Retriever? The result is a highly sought after dog, called a Labradoodle. Labradoodle dogs are one of the latest breeds of so-called designer dogs, or hybrid dogs. Hybrid dogs aren't recognized as an official breed by dog registries such as the American Kennel Club.

Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers are the most popular dogs used as service dogs. However, many disabled people aren't able to use service dogs because of allergic reactions to dogs.

This is where the Labradoodle concept originated. Labradoodle dogs were 'created' to be service dogs for disabled people with allergies. An Australian guide dog organization called "Guide Dogs Victoria" first received the request in the 1970s for the special type of dog. The Australian breeder started attempting to develop a guide dog that was also low-allergenic. Because of inconsistencies in the breeding results, they quit breeding Labradoodle dogs.

Despite "Guide Dogs Victoria" ending their Labradoodle breeding program, the dog breed was becoming popular with potential dog owners. Labradoodle dogs became popular for purposes other than service dogs, too. Many people would love to have a pet dog, but also have allergies to pet hair. So Labradoodle dogs became highly prized as hypo-allergenic pets.

Others want Labradoodle dogs as pets for their temperament. Labrador Retrievers are the most popular registered dogs in recent years. They are well-liked for their energetic, playful personalities and gentle natures.

Poodles are one of the smartest dog breeds in existence. Some experts claim that Poodles can understand human language much better than other dogs. Poodles can be trained more easily than other dog breeds. Poodles also adore human company. Crossing these two popular dog breeds often results in an extremely intelligent dog that is also loyal, friendly, playful, and energetic.
