The Best Movies of 2007

While 2007 is pretty much the year of the sequel and remakes there are a few (a very few) original pieces that are outstaning....at least to me. I must first stress my anger towards the sequels. Here is a list of the block buster movies for the summer of 2007.

Spider-Man 3
28 Weeks Later
Pirates 3
Harry Potter 5
Shrek 3
Invasion (remake)
3:10 to Yuma (remake)
And countless others. This does not include known titles like Transformers and The Simpsons Movie.

Despite all of this, there are a couple of great movies out there. I admit, they are not for everyone.

Sunshine is the best movie of the year so far. It is a science fiction that is from the creator of 28 Days Later. It has nothing to do with drugs or gore - but space. Well shot, well acted and perfectly executed. It reminds me a lot of Solaris and even some of 2001. If you don't like sci fi and especially don't like 2001, I recommend you stay away from this movie.

Knocked Up. Yes, it is just a simple comedy. But, it does it well..very well. It has plenty of humor, great pacing and even an abnormal story these days. Highly recommended for comedy fans.

I am sad to say, there is not a whole lot else out there. Maybe the fall will bring us several movies to look forward to. Hopefully this year will be better than last year. Keep your eye out for the most recent movie reviews for what might be great.
