Go to www.UnicefUSA.org/trickortreat to learn about the Trick or Treat for Unicef campaign. Unicef provides cute orange boxes to collect money while trick or treating. Children are able to use the boxes to collect money for books, education, medical care, and food for underprivileged children. Children enjoy helping others; so on Halloween help them collect donations for Unicef to learn the joy of raising funds to help children in need throughout the world.

The Unicef Halloween boxes are also provided at many Pier 1 stores as of September 24th, 2007. Boxes will also be available from September 10th at Hallmark Gold Crown stores. The Unicef website provides an area to input your zip code to find the stores that provide boxes near your town. You may also order boxes at the Unicef website.

The Unicef website gives ideas for Halloween fund raisers. It also provides a fundraising kit, a DVD about how Unicef helps children around the world, and gives reward stickers for donations.

Perhaps you could set a "donation matching" promise to your child's efforts. For every dollar they raise perhaps you could donate a dollar too, thus doubling the amount raised for Unicef.

Working to help others teaches children compassion and the value of a dollar. When they realize that money they raise could dramatically change the health or life of a child they will gain enormous self esteem from knowing their efforts are so vitally important. Unicef uses the money raised on Halloween to provide vaccinations; thus funds raised could actually save lives.

Halloween is a holiday associated with candy and fun. It has the potential to be much more though. Halloween is a chance to ask people to open their hearts (and wallets) to help Unicef help the children of the world. Every child feels joy at feeling a full sack of candy at the end of Halloween. Add to that joy by helping a child feel a full box of money raised for Unicef too.

The pennies or dollars you donate will go far to help children. Unicef is a highly respected organization that has been helping children for almost 60 years.

oh man, did I miss this then? I will have to check out their website. Could you imagine making it mandatory every other year for kids to collect for this instead of candy

I heard about this too late to participate last year. Thanks for writing this. My daughter will be thrilled to help!
