I Write What I Feel
I Put a Piece of Myself into Everything I Write
Where It All Began
I was sitting in my communications class at the community college I attended where I got my business degree. It was then called Muskingum Tech, but is now called Zane State. It is located in Zanesville, Ohio. I had just finished my first technical paper and was waiting for the Professor to hand it back to me. She walked to my table, handed me the graded paper, and said she would like to talk to me after class.
I looked at the paper, "A+." I was on top of the world.
When the class ended I walked to the Professor's desk and waited for her to tell me what she wanted to discuss with me. She stacked her papers on her desk, looked at me with a big smile on her face, and said, "Becky, I was very thrilled with the paper you turned into me. You have an amazing talent. I want to use this paper as an example for future students of this class. I have made a copy of it. With your permission, I will be able us it to give the students an example of a perfectly written paper. Is it ok for me to use it for this purpose.?"
"Sure, you may use it. I am honored you have chosen it." I said. The pride within me was immense. I was beaming inside. It gave me a sense of accomplishment, which until that moment, I had never felt.
"I would suggest that you pursue writing as a career. You will do great. You may not become rich, but I am sure you will do well."
Well it took many years before writing became something I would do as a profession. Only in the last three years to be exact. I had to find more courage. At the time I was in college, I was still living in my abusive marriage. The pride of accomplishment was dashed when my husband found out about it.
I still never forgot that moment with the Professor, and it is the motivation which fueled my eventual start into the writing field.
