Study: More People Are Traveling with Grandparents
Grandparents name Orlando, Florida, as a top destination when they are vacationing with their grandchildren, according to the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau's press release.
Many more families are taking vacations and bringing their grandparents along; or in some cases, vice versa. A lot of the baby boomer generation of grandparents today have the finances to take the entire family on a family vacation. Of course, one of the first choices will always be a
location where the grandchildren will enjoy themselves thoroughly. With Orlando's many attractions, such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and International Drive, it is guaranteed to top the list of family hot spots.
This is not a surprise to the county officials in the area who have been working diligently at bringing more "grantravel" tourism to Orange County. "Orlando continues to be the perfect destination for multigenerational family travel as there is something to meet the needs of everyone in the group, regardless of age," the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau said in their press release .
Area hotels have recently been running a variety of specials during the county's "Endless Summer" campaign. These "buy one get one" specials have attracted the new, younger generation of grandparents. Over 50 restaurants have even jumped into the crusade with culinary specials running through the end of September.
According to the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau's , several recent studies and surveys related to the travel preferences of the older generation show that nearly half of all grandparents travel with their grandchildren along with the children's parents. Surprisingly the research also shows that more than 30% of grandparents travel with just their grandchildren; possibly giving the parents a break. But more likely, it is giving the grandparents a reason to travel more; which is difficult to do earlier in life when you are building a career and raising a family.
