Have you ever seen the house that John Edwards lives in? It's a pretty house and a huge one. I understand that it is close to 30,000 square feet in size. The average home in America is around 1600 square feet, so Mr. Edwards house is 18.75 times bigger than the average house in America. He's done well in the America that he lives in. Several months ago, there was a news show on television that showed pictures of this fabulous house. They also showed pictures of Mr. Edwards neighborhood and they interviewed Mr. Edwards' neighbors. It was an enlightening piece, an important piece.

The houses across the street were part of the other America, the America that John Edwards says he knows how to fix. John Edwards wants to end poverty. He wants to cure poverty, stop hunger and solve all of the problems that have plagued us for decades.Maybe he built his house where he did so that he could illustrate a point. Maybe he was saying "Look how rich and successful I am and look how poor they are, can't you see how they need my help?" Maybe he built there so that he could be close to one of the problems that he wants to solve. Then again, he might have just wanted a huge house on a large piece of land and that was what was available.

The Show producers talked to the neighbors. They asked them about their interactions with Mr Edwards. There weren't any. They asked them if they had ever met or spoken to him, they hadn't. At last, they asked them if they supported him for President, they didn't. I guess that they couldn't see how wonderful Mr Edwards was. Maybe they didn't know that just as soon as Mr Edwards got elected President everything would change. I guess you could say that they were a world apart

Mr Edwards wants to change the world but his vision is impaired. He sees two Americas, but he can't see across the street.

Anne, Brilliant as usual.. excellent choice of words when you said, "Mr Edwards wants to change the world but his vision is impaired. He sees two Americas, but he can't see across the street." Right on target and that is what the left will hate about you and your writing. But keep it up because you can see clearly and that is how we beat the liberal hordes back. In their minds, anyone beating them in any argument, on any topic.. using logic, facts and truth, is a right wing radical.. Poor things, they really just don't know any better. Five Stars for you my friend.

I've been watching the presidential candidates during their speeches and I'll agree Edwards does talk a good line. One day I want to hear a politician say, "Hey, I grew up poor and today I live in a big ole house. Here's how I did it. This might not work for everyone, but it worked for me." Then, I want them to go on to explain how they were able to overcome poverty. I have made steps to over come poverty, but what I've found is that my life has gone from straight up poverty to should I lose my job I'll be back in poverty. That would mean I've struggled to reach the lower middle class. I guess the saying, the rich are there to give hope to the middle class and the poor are there to scare the shit out of the middle class to keep them working, has become the truth of my life.

You should sign up on Little Green Footballs and post teasers during their overnight conversations, linking them back here. It might get you some good faithful pageviews.

Nope, it wasn't. The last time I checked John Edwards was the only one with "Two Americas" And don't be sorry. You might cause me to make 2.05 on AC this month.

Anne, you said, "I only wanted to point out that ALL of the candidates should try doing instead of talking. I appreciate your comment." Then why wasn't the title of your article...All The Candidates and the "Two Americas"?! Smells a bit like hypocrisy, No?! Again with the rhetorical questions, sorry!

Thanks Tyler. I am not trying to insult the man, I only wanted to point out that ALL of the candidates should try doing instead of talking. I appreciate your comment.

Anne, I think Edwards realizes he can't completely eliminate but he has done some limited things at the UNC Poverty Center and some of poorer communities in Eastern North Carolina. You make some very valid points however.

No Tyler, the overriding theme is exactly what it says, that maybe he should solve poverty in his own state before he claims that he can do it for the whole nation.

So the overriding theme of this is to say if you are rich you're not allowed to speak about poverty if your politics are also left wing?

Well written! Thanks for sharing...

Secondly, my use of the term "young lady" was born out of survival instinct. I drove a taxi in DC for 2 years, and I was constantly admonished by females when I answered using the term "ma'am" as the females would offer, "I'm not old enough for you to call me Ma'am." Therefore, I substituted "young lady" as a generic substitute because until Alyce the Malcontent objected to the term as "condescending" (which you misspelled Alyce), I had never had anyone object to my use of "young lady" in a respectful manner. There's always one, isn't there?

"Alyce said: ...Jim Clayton's comment. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant "young lady" in a positive tone of voice, not a condesending older adult to younger female kind of way. Alyce, what is your problem with me? My comment was complimentary, therefore, why would I then try to offend Anne? Additionally, I was not addressing you, so MYOB. How 'bout that? What kind of a freak malcontent idiot are you, YOUNG LADY????? Hope I offended your old ass, and you have obviously forgotten my last admonition to you: Don't pick a fight with me, because I will eat you. Do you understand, ya ignorant dolt! Questions??????

Just checked out your profile. I found that being called "young lady" was supposed to be a compliment to a woman my age. But I still find it condesending. Okay, you can delete this comment because it has nothing to do with the article and everything to do with Jim Clayton's comment. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant "young lady" in a positive tone of voice, not a condesending older adult to younger female kind of way.

We also have government, today, where a person who grew up in a one room log cabin would never be able to afford running for President. I do like Senator Obama's approach to solving the poverty issue, because it includes solving other issues, such as US companies hiring Chinese techies because they are more educated then the US educated ones. And helping struggling farmers by using corn in new factories creating bio-desiel fuel alternatives. This creates new jobs for the displaced workers, and helps lessen the country's dependency upon oil. Yes, Obama and his wife live in a fine house the average citizen can not dream to afford, but they both studied and worked hard to obtain it.

Do not know much about Edwards, nor recall why his You Tube videos did not impress me. I do not know how old he is, but today's issues are more complex. He may have been so poor he had to borrow $50.00, but there were others who were so poor they could not borrow the 50, nor take children to the hospitial to recieve treatment. Things are a bit better today for females and minorities to have opportunities to pull themselves out of poverty. But now, government regulations and rich corporations ruling the government is making it hard, even for middle class citizens to get ahead. Many are losing their homes, unable to meet the costs of health care, inflation, downsizing, outsourcing and being restructured out of jobs.
