Honda Closing Job Application Period for New Indiana Plant

Honda has been overwhelmed with the amount of job applications for their new plant to be located in Greensburg, Indiana. On August 26, it opened the first application period, and invited interested applicants who lived within a 20-county radius of the new plant to submit online applications. They felt that by limiting the job applicant area it would give them a good pool of workers to choose from while limiting the employees commute to the plant at an hour maximum.

Hoosiers responded with over 5,000 applications on the first day alone. With 2 days in the first application deadline left, applications stand at over 23,000 submitted. Those who submit an application by Sunday September 9th will be considered for the first round of job hiring's expected to take place later this fall. The plant plans to employee 2,000 associates.

According to Honda's website the company is looking for flexible, open-minded people who like to work in a fast paced environment. The company is said to have a strict attendance policy. Applicants are required to be over 18 years of age and have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Prior assembly plant experience is not a requirement.

Limited hiring is expected to occur this year with the majority of the positions to be filled next year. Applications filed will remain active for 2 years. Honda officials believe this to be the first and last open employment calls for the plant for a while. As one can expect 23,000 applications gives them quite a good selection of workers.

The $550 million dollar plant is being welcomed and is heavily anticipated by local residents. The plant is sure to boost the economy of Southeastern Indiana.

This will be Honda's seventh automotive plant. The plant is being constructed along Interstate 74 in southeastern Indiana. It is expected to begin production by fall 2008. At full production the plant expects to produce about 200,000 fuel efficient 4 cylinder Honda Civics each year.
