Unfortunately for head coach Mike Stoops his Arizona Wildcats football team reside in the Pac Ten. Playing defense in the Pac Ten can get you far, but you must be able to put points on the board to be successful. A team like USC and Cal on a bad offensive day will score 28 points easily. Therefore, the Wildcats must improve on their dismal 16.6 points per game from 2006. It is almost shameful that starting his fifth year at the University of Arizona the Wildcats don't have any firepower on the offensive side of the ball. Arizona has an amazing defense and they might have the third best defense in the Pac Ten behind USC and UCLA. In 2006 the Wildcats only gave up 19.6 points per game. It is unrealistic to expect to win games in the Pac Ten 21- 19 or 24-19 on a regular basis. Throwing USC and California out of the equation Oregon (29.5 PPG), Arizona State (26.8 PPG), Oregon State (27.8 PPG) and Washington State (24.6 PPG) will not be held under 20 points per game on a regular basis. Mike Stoops can't possibly believe that even with one of the best defenses in the nation that Arizona can hold 6 Pac Ten teams under 20 and at the same time pray for his own team to score more than the 16 points per game that they average just to win games. The margin for error that Arizona has is very slim, because of their lack of offensive production. In 2006 there were six games that Arizona scored less than 20 points.
