Western Massachusetts is colorful and plush in the fall, and the local manicured and formal gardens only add to the area's beauty. When enjoying the fall foliage in Western Massachusetts and the Berkshires, why not take a side trip to one of the areas renown and or historic gardens?

Berkshire Botanical Garden

Visiting the Berkshire Botanical is like visiting a whole variety of gardens. The garden venue includes a rock garden, an informal Procter Garden, a vista garden which draws its beauty from the current season, a rose garden, a wild flower meadow, an herb garden, an ornamental vegetable garden, and more.

It is open from 10m until 5pm through October 14. Adults pay $6, seniors and students pay $5, and children under 12 are free. Chesterwood Gardens

Chesterwood was the summer home of sculptor Daniel Chester, French, best known for his famous sculpture of Lincoln in Washington, D.C.
Chesterwood boasts Arts and Crafts Style gardens as well as sculpture.

Chesterwood is open from 10am until 5pm, daily, through October 14, 2007. Chesterwood is located at 4 Williamsville Road in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, 01262. The phone number is 413-298-3579.

Naumkeag Garden

Naumkeag is one of the famous European style home gardens in the area. The grounds at Naumkeag encompass eight beautiful acres of terraced gardens. Highlights include the afternoon Garden, and the Chinese Garden.

Similar to The Mount grounds, described blow, the garden at Naumkeag is comprised of many different "rooms" including an evergreens, lindens, and roses. The property itself is surrounded by 40 acres of woods and meadows that reach to the Housatonic River Valley.
