Walking sticks look like they do because they need to blend in with their surroundings. They are born to look like a stick in order to survive. In order to keep a walking stick alive you will need to replicate their natural habitat. This means you have to have leaves and the humidity right. Walking sticks can be handled but not by small children. They are very delicate and easy to kill. This doesn't mean you have to keep the walking stick caged up. You can pick up the walking stick but you need to be careful so that you do not crush it's organs.
Walking sticks are much like chameleons because you will have to mist the tank with water in order for them to drink. This means you can't leave for vacation and expect the walking stick to be alive when you return. You need to keep the humidity at about 50% which means you should mist the tank every day to keep the humidity at the correct level. You can buy a humidity monitor and place it at the bottom of the tank you keep the walking stick inside of. You should not place a heat lamp on top of the tank because this will dry out the walking stick and the humidity level will go down.
Walking sticks need to be fed a certain type of leaves or sticks. It's usually ivy or oaks leaves and sticks. If you do a search on the Internet you will be able to find food that you can purchase for your walking stick. Do not leave a water dish in the tank or your walking stick might fall in and drowned. You will also want to make sure that you don't grab the walking stick by the legs because you could accidentally pull the leg off. Grab the walking stick by the body instead.
