According to an Associated Press report, comedian Eddie Griffin was cut off during the middle of a performance at the Black Enterprise magazine's Golf and Tennis Challenge due to his use of profanities and the dreaded N-word.

This 14th annual event was held at the luxurious Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida. This festive gathering touted many performers such as Heather Headley, Morris Day, The Time, Cameo and Erykah Badu. It occurred over the Labor Day weekend and was to be a landing spot for some of the most brilliant business minds for a time of epicurean indulgence and friendly competition. However, things got ugly shortly after Eddie Griffin got on stage to perform his stand-up routine.

Some people in the crowd became upset after Griffin used a string of profanities and the N-word. Why? Only a couple of months ago, a mock burial of the N-word was hosted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This event was to symbolize a new beginning for African Americans in which they used only words of healing towards each other. Since the N-word and profanities carry so much negative weight (for some), they were to be ended within the cultural language. Apparently, Eddie Griffin did not get the message or felt it didn't apply to him while performing his act. The latter part of this statement is probably the most true in this case.

Unlike his acting roles in Undercover Brother and Malcolm & Eddie, Griffin is known for his strong sexual content, profanities and use of the N-word during his stand-up routine. His popular film DysFunktional Family leaves nothing to the imagination. As a result, this causes me to think he may have felt at home with his use of vulgarity because he believed the people who hired him were fully aware of his outrageous act. However, at this time, this is only a guess.

Apparently Mr. Griffin submitted a tape depicting "clean" material that would be used for the BE event. One would have to live in cave in order not to realize the social climate is changing for that type of behavior. I really don't think it is fair to hold others accountable without first taking an introspective look at ourselves. Instead of trying to find ways to validate "foolishness" we should see it for what it is and strive to do better.

Black Enterprise blew it. You hired someone that is inapporiate for the event. Then you censor him by booting him off the stage only to shame him? Some support for your own Black Enterprise. Now people are patting you on the back for showing some muscle. If that's not a mob mentality, I don't know what is! Classic victim turned abuser. Let's seize the momment... Older folks have told me that there was a time if someone called them black it was a problem, just as if they had been called n*****, coon or spook. Now we are supposed to be African American. A people's name does not change every few years or so... The Most High created Nations. We in truth are not negro, black or colored. I'm just saying let's not pick and choose the degradation we are going to stop. Deal with all of it. This is a start... we are conversing about the pain that has been caused. We have ignored it far too long. What is your nationality? It is not African American for those names are of two continents

Shot most of this right before Eddie worked his magic in Miami but I think it ties in nicely. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid900837105/bclid900668361/bctid1178178663

They should have known better than to have "potty mouth" Eddie Griffin do a stand-up performance. He is famous for using profanity and the N-word in his stand up routines.
