How to Attend Your Class Reunion Without Going Bonkers

Did you just receive an announcement about your upcoming high school class reunion? If you did, you probably had either a feeling of complete adulation or total dread.

Your response may depend upon whether your experiences in high school were positive or negative. If you were popular, a school jock, a cheerleader, voted in as a class officer, in the Honor Society, had lots of friends, etc., then your memories of
high school are more likely to bring you a good feeling. If you were unpopular, felt "invisible", were considered on the nerdy side and picked on, then the "old days" are probably not something you like to think about.

It may also be affected by how you feel about your current life. If you went on to have a certain amount of success in life, especially if you were once considered an outcast during your younger days, you may want to go flaunt it a little bit in front of your former classmates. On the other hand, if you feel that your life has failed to measure up to the type of outward success you dreamed of, you may be afraid of your old chums finding out.

Whatever the case may be, however, you don't have to be traumatized by the prospect of attending your class reunion. You can go and enjoy yourself, if you keep these things in mind.

Realize That You Do Not Have to Impress Anyone Anymore

Back in high school, we all strived to make ourselves impressive to others. We wanted to fit in and belong, to be part of the crowd that everybody admired and envied. All high schools, back in the day and even now, have social "caste systems". That's just part of the dynamics of growing up.

The important thing to remember is that you have been a full-fledged adult for a number of years now. You should have grown up enough to realize that you no longer need to impress anyone, unless its your employer or those you love. The truth of the matter is that the "popular" kids back then were most likely just as scared and insecure as you were.

Be confident enough in yourself to be exactly the person you really are. You don't have to put on airs or lie or apologize for your life. Be happy for those who accept you and ignore those who don't.
