When you plan a trip to Kentucky, be sure to include The Mammoth Cave National Park on your list of unique places to visit! This exciting place is a true wonder of the world and visiting it will take you on a fascinating journey. Mammoth Cave is one of the oldest tourist attractions that can be visited in North America! Tours of Mammoth Cave have been going on since 1816.

Visiting Mammoth Cave is a beautiful and magical experience. The fact that it is the longest known cave in the world is exciting enough. The beauty and sheer size of the cave will take your breath away. Be ready for lots of walking and climbing when you visit! There are so many fascinating things about this park. It is an adventurer's discovery waiting to be explored by you.

Mammoth Cave National Park offers many tours. They have summer, fall and winter tour schedules. Some of the tours available include the Mammoth passage tour, the historic tour, the broadway tour, the frozen niagara tour, the new entrance tour, the grand avenue tour, the river styx cave tour, the snowball tour, the star chamber tour and the wild cave tour. There is a special cave tour offered just for kids! No parents allowed. As you can tell, by all of these beautifully named tours, the park has many different tours offered. Most of them are of two to three hour duration. One bad thing to be noted is there are no places to find a bathroom, on many of these tours. Be prepared for that reality!

You need to be in pretty good shape to enjoy the full beauty of this park and all that it has to offer. The areas covered are large, many miles and worth every step. From ridges, to cave rivers and in between, the journey is one that you will never forget. These caves were formed over ten million years ago. Camping, trails, rivers and backpacking, it is all there. Hiking is fun and there are sixty miles of trails open to horseback riders! There are over seventy miles of Kentucky forest trails and backcountry trails to wander down! Bicyclists are welcome, too. There is much more to this park than just caves.

My girlfriend and I took the dry cave tour...about an hour long tour. We saw the tuberculosis doctor's shack and heard the story behind the cave's brief care as a TB sanitarium. Interesting place. Love to get to some of the lower caves with the stalactites and stalagmites.

Great info. I grew up very close to Mammoth Cave and have taken several tours. Can't wait until my son is old enough for one.
