To win in a fantasy football keeper or dynasty league year after year, you need to evaluate your roster and make good trades. Here are the top 5 tips to remember when looking to make a trade in a keeper league.

1. Know your roster needs- The first step in deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on any trade is to know your roster. What are your needs? What can you afford to give up? It will not do you any good to trade unless you know what you are trading for. If you are blessed with Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne and Lee Evans at wide receiver and you can only start two each week, look to trade one of them for a position of need on your team. Another important thing to remember here is to get full value for your player. Do not just give up Lee Evans for Rex Grossman because you need a quarterback. Try to find an owner with a situation of need at wide receiver and shop Lee Evans to him for a player on his roster of equal value.

2. Never make the first offer- If you are interested in trading with another owner, I would try to refrain from making the first offer. For example, you are trying to trade for quarterback Marc Bulger with another owner. The first approach you could use is to contact this other owner stating you are interested in Marc Bulger and ask him to take a look at your roster to see what he might be willing to trade you. You will be surprised how many times the other owner asks for less then you were prepared to offer him originally. By holding back your original offer you lose nothing but can gain a more favorable trade if the other owner asks for less.
