King of the Hill: Evidence that a Compassionate Conservative Can Survive in Texas

In Animated Form Anyway

George W. Bush appeared on the national political scene in 2000 with the promise that he would be a compassionate conservative. The idea was that he would hold the same basic fundamental truths as such uncompassionate right-wing politicians as Newt Gingrich, Tom Delay and Lindsey Graham,
but he would also show some compassion. Compassion being an emotion that was in dreadfully short supply among the adulterous hypocrites who impeached Bill Clinton for doing the exact same thing they were doing, which was still far less damaging than the crimes they let George W. Bush get away with. Naturally, over the course of the Bush presidency one might well question if it is even possible that a compassionate conservative exists in Texas. Bush was their leader and they elected him; proof enough that he appealed to the majority there at least. Can a compassionate conservative-which Bush is not-actually survive in Texas?

I love that Hank Hill is teaching his son good values. I like that most of the progressive mini movements land Bobby Hill flat on his face so he can come back to what is tried tested and true. This show is all about change both current and generational however while the world is changing around both Hank and his family they all learn one thing that in the end you come back to what works.

Great article Tim, but is Lindsey Graham really that bad for a South Carolina Republican? I know he played a role in the impeachment hearing because he is a damn good attorney, but look at his colleague DeMint, now that's scary.

What I don't understand is this - sure conservative people are nice enough one on one but why do they vote the way they do? Are they just being nice through their gritted teeth whild down deep they hate our guts? I know this sort of contradicts some commentsI made on another article of yours but honestly even if Bush did "steal" the election in 2000 the vote was still really really close. Then the American people put this loser back in office. Who's to say "we"don't deserve exactly what "we" get - or at least what "they" get - after all what is the big deal if after 4 years of this nonsenseChuck Hegel and Richard Lugar and others are beginning to see the light. What we need in this country are leaders with the foresightnot toget usinto messes like this in the first place! One other thing -that whole gay marriage thing was such a scam to increase Bush's coattails and steal moderatevotes it wasn't even funny -what classic bait and switch - andtheAmerican peopleboughtit hook, line, and si

I've often found it to be the case that conservative people are great one on one - I just don't really want to be in a whole group of them when they're in full-cheerleader mode. Then again I'm not very comfortable among a large group ofliberals in cheerleader mode either - I've gotten more so buti guess I'm just not much ofa joiner or comfortable with group speak. This is a much bigger problem for liberals I think than conservatives though because liberals say it in the vote and conservatives just express their disgruntled concerns aloud and then move on and continue to give these losers their support with their vote - sure some of them vote libertarian but I bet Democrats have lost far more votes to the Green and Reform Partiesor just to people whowould vote liberal if liberals didwhat they promised by staying home.
