I have a problem, or rather an addiction.

It's an addiction that might be a bit of a taboo, since it's one for which there is no a nationally recognized recovery program. Nevertheless, it's a strong addiction that is entitled to the national attention that is given to similar addictions.

Sadly, I am addicted to Girl Scout cookies. I know what you must be thinking, this is something silly to bring up, but I can assure you that I am completely serious about this.

The problem started out innocently enough, I had a few neighboring friends whose kids sold me a box or two. No big deal right? That's what they want you to believe. But once you buy a box they got you hooked. Soon you are stalking out grocery stores wanting to score a box of Thin Mints or Short Bread.

And let me tell you, cops are not very understanding when you have to explain to them that "Yes sir, you should have moved on after the nice Girl Scout told you that they were out of those fabulous Thin Mints, but you see, you needed a fix and the Somoya coconut cookies weren't hitting the spot. What's more, you did not mean to insult the Den Mother by calling her a "Thin Mint Cookie Monger."

After a few such embarrassing incidents I have decided to form my own addiction help program, the new "Scouting Cookie Addicts in Recovery" or SCAR for short. Like most recovery programs we welcome all comers. It does not matter to us if you have wrestled a cute little pigged tailed Girl Scout to the ground to take away her last box of Short Bread, you are still welcomed. Last week there was a gentlemen who claimed that the reason he had to have the Thin Mints was because, and I quote, "the aliens messed with my metabolism." Scott (not his real name) was not questioned on the type of probing these alleged aliens were said to have done on him; he was just simply welcomed with open arms.
