I've always enjoyed watching awards shows for as far back as I can remember. I'm not sure what it is, but there's a certain anticipation and excitement for me, in that. Right now, I'm looking forward to the 59th Emmy Awards show, scheduled to air on Fox at 8pm, Sunday evening, September 16th. All the excitement will be taking place in the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium.

There, you will find this year's host, Ryan Seacrest, working his "crowd appeal" and entertaining the masses, in his own unique way. Ryan has been most known for his role on American Idol, also as the host. I imagine he will host this year's Emmys in a similar fashion as that which we are used to from Idol. As is typical for the Emmys, there will be an opening act, aimed at catching people's attention and in hopes that they will tune in to the remainder of the show. However, what is not typical will be Seacrest's approach. The opener this year will be a song of sorts, described as a "musical number," according to Ryan. He may or may not participate in the song, deciding to wait and see how he feels at the time. I'm personally looking forward to Ryan hosting this year's event, as I enjoy his sense of humor and am very familiar with his tv personality. Among the entertainers scheduled to be in the lime light that night will be Lewis Black, Jon Stewart, and Ellen DeGeneres, and several more.

Another thing that could possibly cause this year's show to stand out (and something that could cause some tension and debate) is the nomination that the song "Dick in a Box" received. I find this song to be very offensive and do not agree with it being nominated. Nor did I agree with the song being aired on Saturday Night Live, sung by Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg, of SNL. I blush at the fact that I even typed out the name of the song for readers to see!

Takeaways
  • This year's host is Ryan Seacrest, who is best known for hosting American Idol.
  • 33 New Nominees!
  • Controversial song from Saturday Night Live nominated for this year's show.
