Acadia National Park gathers within its borders incredible scenic views of forests, mountains, coastline and water. Hiding in the remote northern lands of Maine, the northernmost state in New England, Arcadia is amazingly well visited in the summer months. Then there is the draw of water sports, hiking, mountain climbing and camping. But as autumn moves in for its annual stay, visitors may become more timid about taking that trek northward. Fight the tendency to shy away from Maine in autumn. Visiting Acadia National Park in autumn can be one of the most beautiful and awe inspiring trips you can take.

Why Put a National Park in Such a Remote Location?. No one can really control where the beauty of a nation resides. It might be in the most accessible , dead center of the nation or, as in the case of Arcadia National Park, it may be found in one of the most remote areas in the nation. The land that makes up Acadia National Park, Maine might very well have been turned to industrial and commercial uses. Thanks to the foresight of several area philanthropists bit by bit the territory that now forms the park was purchased or donated . In 1919 , Acadia became the first National Park to be designated East of the Mississippi River. Even though it is remote by anyone's estimate, it's location in no way has diminished its beauty.

Park Activities. Autumn, though obviously cooler than summer, can be a great time to investigate and enjoy the full beauty of Acadia National Park, Maine. Throughout the fall there are National Park Rangers available to provide tours through the park lands helping visitors to really "see" the park in its fullest beauty and learn how it came to be and how it is being preserved.
