If you're working in the field of education and you enjoy watching Japanese anime, you may enjoy "Great Teacher Onizuka" (GTO) which is an interesting series revolving around Eikichi Onizuka a second-degree black belt in Karate and also a major pervert. He is a recent college graduate that took up a job as a trainee on his way to being a teacher. It's like "Dangerous Minds" with a very humorous twist. Onizuka is put in charge of a class of delinquents at the "Holy Forest Academy."

The funny part was that Onizuka can be deemed as retarded as it's implied that he has an IQ of 50. Despite that, Onizuka strives to become the greatest teacher. Originally, he took a teaching job to get with all of these high school girls. Surprisingly, the age of consent to have sex in Japan is about thirteen or fourteen from what I have heard. But, GTO doesn't focus on sex. However, it does focus a good deal of Onizuka wanting to lose his virginity. Onizuka's sexual frustration plays a humorous part of the story. But it is revealed amongst the gangs and biker gangs of Tokyo that Onizuka happens to be a legend.

Some of Onizuka's students find out about his past the hard way in the most humorous means possible. Watching all of these episodes, it shows that teachers are human just like everybody else. But the way he deals with delinquent students is a bit violent but has proven to be pretty effective. In a sense, Onizuka is basically one of the "cool" teachers with an interesting past. But, no matter how cool and fierce Onizuka is, he's sadly pathetic from within. To many, he's a fierce individual but is one of the saddest individuals in the world.
