If you are among the millions of parents who actually walk your child to and from school each day, there are definitely several precautions that you want to take daily. You should never just assume that since you are walking with your child that no one will bother you. In most cases you will find that the complete opposite will happen. They will usually target you rather than others. Especially if you are a mom who is carrying a pocket book, or if you happen to be wearing any type of expensive looking jewelry. Following are a few ideas and suggestions on how you can keep yourself and your children safe when walking to and from school. First you should always make sure that you have a cell phone when you are walking your child to school. Even if you can not afford a cell phone plan, investing a few dollars in a pre paid cell phone is definitely worth the money. While walking you should always make sure that you phone is in a place where you can get to it quickly. A good place is on your belt clip or maybe even in your hand if you have nothing to clip it to. The reason for this is so that if someone does approach you or if anything happens you are fully prepared to call for help. Most people will program their cell phone so that all they have to do is push one button and there phone will automatically call for help to the number they have specified. Another safety precaution is to always make sure that you have some type of identification on you. Some people don't like to carry their identification because they are afraid of losing it. If however something were to happen to you this information will be vital not only to you but to your kids also. Try placing your identification somewhere hidden but where it can be found if needed.
